What Is Private Duty Nursing?

Private duty nursing provides individualized nursing support based on the patient's specific needs and, when applicable, the orders and care plan established by the patient's treating physician or other authorized healthcare provider.

Depending on the patient's needs and applicable medical orders, private duty nursing services may include assistance with:

Medication administration or medication-related support, as ordered
Vital sign monitoring
Mobility and safety support
Assistance with activities of daily living
Post-hospitalization support
Chronic medical condition support
Caregiver support and education
Other nursing services within the nurse's professional scope and applicable orders

The specific services provided will depend on the patient's medical needs, the nurse's scope of practice, and applicable physician or healthcare-provider orders.

Our private duty nurse network

Independent Nursing Professionals

Dignity Extensivists partners with multiple private duty nurses who provide services as independent contractors.

These nurses are not employees of Dignity Extensivists of Central Texas. Each nurse operates independently and is responsible for providing professional nursing services within their individual scope of practice and applicable requirements.

Our role

To help connect patients and families with qualified private duty nursing professionals while supporting a professional and coordinated care experience.

Our screening & credentialing process

Your Safety Matters

Before contracting with private duty nurses, Dignity Extensivists conducts a screening and credentialing process designed to verify important professional qualifications.

Depending on the applicable requirements, this includes:

Background Checks

We obtain and review appropriate background information before entering into a contractor relationship.

Professional License Verification

We verify the nurse's professional nursing license and applicable credentials.

Malpractice Coverage

We verify that the contracted nurse maintains appropriate professional liability/malpractice coverage.

Professional Qualifications

We review relevant professional information and qualifications as part of our contracting process.

Our goal is to work with qualified nursing professionals who meet our contracting and credentialing requirements.

Working with your healthcare team

Your Physician Remains Part of the Care Team

Private duty nurses work collaboratively with the patient's existing healthcare team. When medical orders or clinical direction are required, the nurse works with the patient's primary care physician, treating specialist, or other authorized healthcare provider.

Dignity Extensivists does not replace the patient's primary care physician or specialist. Instead, our goal is to help coordinate nursing support with the healthcare professionals already involved in the patient's care.

This collaborative approach helps ensure that nursing care is aligned with the patient's medical needs and established treatment plan.
